PBP Phase 3 Week 4: Wind Turbine

Today we built the Wind Turbine and learned a bit about wind energy and power. The kids loved it and some of them found a way to spin their wind turbines a little too fast. The topic for next week is an introduction to Pneumatics. Please ask the kids to clean up better as dropped parts were found today.

ECA Phase 3 Topic 4: Wind Turbine

Today we built the wind turbine and used it to charge batteries as well as learning about power and what it consists of. The kids loved seeing the turbines charge the batteries and when partnered up had very little issue with building the model. Next week we will be starting pneumatics something that I’m sure the kids will find very fun. And thank you to the children who were good at cleaning up today!

Communication ECA Phase III Class 3: Wind Turbine 20180321

The theme of today is the wind turbine. The wind turbine model transferred the wind energy generated by a fan to electrical energy stored in the power meter. The experiment is a very good mimic to the real wind turbines used in real world. The students finished the model building part smoothly, and then they all conducted and finished the experiment. During which I explained the STEM information, which is the power equals to voltage multiplies current.

Most of the student cannot perform decimal multiplications, thus the experiments were simplified to observe and record joules instead of watt calculations. One extra part to use the generated electoral power was also added to the class, which deepened their understandings of the Power Meter usage. All students finished the experiments and filled the lab sheets. They love the challenging project.

Communication ECA Phase III Class 3: Wind Turbine 20170927

The theme of today is the wind turbine. Generally speaking, this section works pretty well. Quoted from Paul: “this is the most successful sections ever of Phase III. “

The model the students built is a wind turbine, which was used to charge the power meter during the experiment section. In the charging process, the wind turbine transferred the wind energy generated by a fan to electrical energy stored in the power meter. The experiment is a very good mimic to the real wind turbines used in industry. We can see many wind turbines on the way to the Waterton Lake National park. The students finished the model building part quick, and then they all came to the experiment table and conducted the experiment. During which I explained the STEM information to each of them, which is the power equals to voltage multiplies current. All students finished the experiments and filled the lab sheets. They love challenging projects.
