CCS 20171105 Imagination

The last class turned out to be extremely fun as the kids had the opportunity to use their imagination and build what they liked. It was also a test for them to see whether they could retain the concepts from the previous classes. I was happy to see them using mechanical engineering concepts coupled with electrical rotors to build a complex project. It was also easy to see their enthusiasm especially in the last class, but also throughout the term. Now that everyone has successfully graduated phase 1 I hope to see them in the next phase that begins in January.

CCS Phase I 20171029 Fishing Rod

The kids not only enjoyed this class but were all able to finish it in time, so in the end they had the time to play and experiment with their projects. This was a really fun class, and also educational regarding the concepts of engineering and also efficiency. Next week, in the last class the kids will have an open session to work on anything they like to build.

The Dragster

This turned out to be a very enjoyable and rewarding class for the children. All of the kids finished their tasks which consisted of doing their projects and understanding their assignments. This class introduced them to the topics of acceleration, weight, and velocity. After they finished, they started playing with their cars and raced each other. This class was on the sixth week and so the project they worked on and the upcoming one in the next class will be the most challenging ones. Next week they will be working on the Fishing Rob, another exciting and interesting project.

Communication CCS Phase I Class 3: The Hammer 20170925

Build the Lego hammer, mimic the nail drive, make a presentation. Students conducted the experiment to observe how many times are needed to hit the axis into the anvil. During the experiment, the students need to change the cam wheel position, so the potential energy of the hammer varies thus the kinetics energy. The STEM information behind this section is the energy transformation between the potential and kinetics energy as well as friction forces. All the students finished the model building part and did the experiment with different level. Did you see some rolling hammer car before? here you go! Kevin build a very unique hammer car!

Communication CCS Phase I Class 2: The Balance 20170917

The kids had an amazing time building the balance. The balance allows them to weight different objects on each side, and measure their difference in mass. At the end of the class the kids took their enthusiasm a little further and used their imagination to build all sorts of things like a canon, and a race car.

Next week we will cover the Hammer in class which will teach the kids more about the STEM. Please try to be in the class at 1 o’clock so the kids can enjoy the full hour, and as always we ask them to organize their Lego material properly so they can easily use it in the next class.

Thank you!

A.

Communication CCS Phase I Class 1: We built Power Car on Sunday 20170910

We had the first Model Power Car built on Sunday September 10, 2017. The power car aims to introduce gear combination to students. What kind of gear combination can make the car run faster or slower. Students are extremely involved in the car race. Kevin was comparing different combination of gears and their different performance. After the class, Don asked his Mom if we would have class tomorrow. Lol… unfortunately, our 8-week class will only happen once a week.

We will have a new model related to scientific measurement in the next week. Please follow us!
