Hello, it is I. Welcom to another class of physics. This time we used battery to power up the energy display, then use the Joules to pull a heavy block off the ground. There are few formulas that need to remeber. F=ma=mg, W=FD(D=distance), Effiency=W/energy used*100%. These will help the kids to do their hoemwork but I also told them in class. It was fairly an easy project to build but needed some critical thinking to finished the expriments. Hope they have learned somthing and had fun with it.
PBP Phase 3 Week 3: Boat Pulley
Today we built the Boat Pulley, and learned a bit about power. The kids loved it and had fun. in particular they had fun trying to figure out how to extract more power from it. The topic for Friday is the Wind Turbine, and will be our last use of electrics for a time. Starting Week 5 we will be moving onto Pneumatics. Parents if you could please tell Selena and Derek to stop constantly shouting it would be much appreciated.
ECA Phase 3 Topic 3: Motor Winch
Today we built a crane/winch system and learned a bit about power and efficiency. The students loved to play with the model so much that they didn’t want to clean up. The topic for next week is the wind turbine. We found a lot of pieces on the floor and we ask that the kids clean up a bit faster and stop losing pieces.
Also for the kids, here’s a picture of the helicopter I mentioned in class today, as you can see it’s lifting a small house.
Communication ECA Phase III Class 2: Boat Pulley 20180314
The topic of today is the energy transformation study using the boat pulley model. The students first built a mimic boat pulley model, then they conducted the experiment to test the energy consumption for load lifting. The experiment also includes the energy efficiency calculations of load lifting for the boat pulley, which is derived using the useful energy divided by the total energy consumption. Energy efficiency is one of the most essential physical and engineering concepts. It’s the key to understand many modern industrial system designs.
The STEM behind this class is the energy transformation between the electrical and potential energy as well as the energy efficiency. The experiment involves some math that is beyond some students’ ability, thus we simplified based on their mathematical levels. All the students finished the model buildings. More importantly, they all finished the experiment section and conducted the energy efficiency calculations. They learned knowledge and enjoyed the class.
