Communication ECA Phase 1 Class 5: Big Wheel Balance 20200205

Last week in our phase one class we all built a balance and learnt that if we position our weights in different positions we could make one weight balance two weights! After giving them a couple challenges they began experimenting on their own and adding weights of their own. This included wheels and bars of all shapes! See you all next class for some more building fun!

Beam Balance

I appreciate everyone for coming-in in such extrem weather.  This week, we worded on a much simpler project than last time.  Almost everyone finished theirs and had been working on the expriment.  They tried to have only one object on the left side to balance with1, 2, 0r 3 on the right side.  They first predict the positions and then test it out.  It was really nice to see they were eager to learn this.

Communication ECA Phase 1 Class 2: Big Wheel Balance 20190918

Today we worked on a lego balance! We learnt about how to use weights in different positions along the beam to create equilibrium. After this all the kids challenged themselves in adding as much lego as they could to the balance while still keeping equilibrium. This included some outrageous designs and creativity involving monster truck wheels and braces! I was very impressed in their understanding and incredible creativity today! Can’t wait till next week!

ECA Phase I Week 2 201901: Balance

Students are expecting to build a beam balance, to understand what is arm length, fulcrum, weight, and know how to keep the balance by not only adding/taking weight, but also adjusting the arm length (the distance between the point where the weight is hung).

Students’ construction part is running pretty well. The experiment is lead by Sophia and Raymond, they explained the whole process of the experiment. That is how Play2Learn Education encourage kids play together.

PBP Phase 1 Week2: Beam Balance

Today we built the beam balance and used it to understand the principles of torque. The students were a bit confused at first however they seemed to have fun playing with it. The topic for friday is the Power Hammer, please ask the children to clean up afterwards.

Communication ECA Phase I Class 2: Balance 20180919

Hello Parents,

Today in class we built beam balances. The beam balance teaches students about the simple machine- the lever. In class, we discussed the correlation between length and weight and why one side of the balance dropped. Next week we will be building a hammer. Please complete the homework assignment and the worksheet provided in class.

Communication ECA Phase I Class 2: The Balance 20180314

This class went extremely well. The kids understood the Balance and the concepts we were working with very quickly. The in-class assignments were also done with relative ease. The concepts included mass, simple dynamics, and weight shift. Next week we will be working on a new project that is going to be slightly more complex than the previous week, as the concepts are supposed to build on each other until the end of the semester.

PBP Phase 1: Class 2: Beam Balance

I apologise for the late Classminutes as there were some technical difficulties on my end.

Last class the students built a beam balance in order to measure and compare various loads. The students were able to finish all the models on time and help cleaning up was much appreciated. Lukas and Ryan are both fast builders and Selina has an eye for precision. The students seemed to like the balance alot and they found it fun to put various objects on the balance for their own experimentation.

On friday the 26th we will be building the Power Hammer.
Apologies for the late response.

Communication ECA Phase I 20180117 The Balance

The balance was an interesting project which gave the kids a chance to make an applicable tool and turn the classroom into a laboratory. They figured out the framework pretty quickly and at the end of the class were given an experiment. The experiment not only meant more playtime, but also meant practicing more of the concept they were experimenting with (concepts such as weight, mathematical equality, and simple Newtonian mechanics). Although the second class was a bit more challenging than the first, I was really happy to see that all of the kids finished their works in time. I will look forward to our class next week where we will be working with the Hammer.

Communication AmbroseU Phase I Class 2: The Balance 20170919

The kids had an amazing time working on The Balance, and I was happy to see that almost all of them, including our new students, understood the material well and finished on time. The Balance helps the kids understand the concept of weight measurement. Also, their homework allows them to sharpen their math skills. Next week we will be working on The Hammer and will introduce new concepts.
