This class went much better than the previous classes in the sense that more children were able to finish their projects and assignments in time, which gave them a bit of free-play time at the end of the class. As usual, this class allowed them to practice scientific concepts related to mechanics and supplied them with an in-class assignment to make sure they have grasped the material. Concepts such as preservation of energy and inertia were practiced, and the assignment asked them to predict the position of their vehicle after it had been launched. I was very happy with their performance, and even happier to see that their work is improving each week.
ECA Phase I 20180131 The Sweeper
The kids really enjoyed playing with the Sweeper. The project was a moving vehicle with rotating axles at the bottom that cleared the way as it moved forward. The concepts were based on gear mechanics and velocity. The class assignment gave the kids an opportunity to experiment with different gears and learn which ones are more efficient. Next week we will be working on more fun projects that are also based on applied physical concepts. As great as it is to have a passionate class with curious students, we ask the children to please respect the allotted time of the class, and make sure their work is done before 7 pm.
Communication ECA Phase I 20180124 The Hammer
The hammer turned out to be a fun project. Although this class was more difficult than the previous classes, everyone was able to finish their work and fully understand what they were working on. The kids also worked on their class assignments and did the experiments at the end of the class. We really do understand that the classes are extremely fun and entertaining, but we ask the children to make sure their work is done before 8 o’clock so they still have enough time for putting their pieces in their boxes before the class is finished. Next week the kids will be working on The Sweeper which is another interesting project.
Communication ECA Phase I 20180117 The Balance
The balance was an interesting project which gave the kids a chance to make an applicable tool and turn the classroom into a laboratory. They figured out the framework pretty quickly and at the end of the class were given an experiment. The experiment not only meant more playtime, but also meant practicing more of the concept they were experimenting with (concepts such as weight, mathematical equality, and simple Newtonian mechanics). Although the second class was a bit more challenging than the first, I was really happy to see that all of the kids finished their works in time. I will look forward to our class next week where we will be working with the Hammer.
PowerCar
The first class went really well and I was very happy to see the kids excited to play with legos. It also gave us a chance to examine the children’s capabilities and see if they are a right fit for the class. They all finished their projects sooner than the allotted time which was amazing. Every week, the project will build on previous works and will get slightly more difficult, this way the kids will also have more fun by facing a challenge. As a result, starting from next week the children will also be given homework in order to practice the concepts they learn. I will be looking forward to seeing everyone in the class.
AmbroseU Phase I 20171107 Imagination
The last class turned out to be extremely fun as the kids had the opportunity to use their imagination and build what they liked. It was also a test for them to see whether they could retain the concepts from the previous classes. I was happy to see them using mechanical engineering concepts coupled with electrical rotors to build a complex project. It was not only easy to see their enthusiasm especially in the last class, but also throughout the term. Now that everyone has successfully graduated phase 1 I hope to see them in the next phase that begins in January.

Imagination
In the last class the kids took the opportunity to work on a project they liked, using their imagination and the concepts they have learned throughout the term. Most of the kids liked the more complicated mechanical projects they had worked on, and so they all used a battery and a motor with their legos. Everyone has been performing amazingly in all of the classes and I was really happy to make sure they received their certificates at the end of the night. We will take a break for a couple of months and start the next phase in January. That phase will be more complicated, but I’m sure our students will be quite capable of finishing them and enjoy the challenge too.

CCS Phase I 20171029 Fishing Rod
The kids not only enjoyed this class but were all able to finish it in time, so in the end they had the time to play and experiment with their projects. This was a really fun class, and also educational regarding the concepts of engineering and also efficiency. Next week, in the last class the kids will have an open session to work on anything they like to build.
